Avandia
Definition:
Avandia, also know as Rosiglitazone, is a thiazolidinedione
anti-diabetic drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKlein. It is primarily used
in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Avandia has been linked to significantly increase risk of heart attacks
and other ischemic cardiac events. England researchers found that the risk
of heart attacks increased 43 percent among those taking Avandia. There
was also a 64 percent increased risk of dying from cardiovascular causes
while taking Avandia. While increased risk of heart attacks is currently
listed as a warning on the Avandia label, the FDA is evaluating
a number of clinical studies to determine the clinical significance of risks
involving Avadia.
